The Diving Pod
The Diving Pod was created by two best friends who met on a pool deck in Mansfield, Texas in 2012. Aaron and Heath wanted to give the community something to go to every week for news, opinion and hopefully helpful information. The sport of diving gave us so much we are hoping to give back just a little!
Heath Calhoun
Heath is currently the diving coach at his alma mater Clarion. A DII school located in Western PA about 90 minutes north of Pittsburgh. In his time there he has coached 15 All-Americans, 2 NCAA Champions, 1 CSCAA Women Diver of the Year, and been named CSCAA Women's Diving Coach of the Year.
Prior to coaching at Clarion he was the diving coach at Westminster College a small DIII college for 7 seasons. In his time there he was 7 time PAC Diving Coach of the Year, 17 NCAA Regional Qualifiers, 6 PAC Divers of the Year, and 4 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans.
Calhoun was a 6-Time All-American as a diver at Division II Clarion University. Calhoun won the NCAA Division II national championship in the 3m Dive at the 2014 NCAA Championships. Calhoun broke the NCAA record by scoring 615.95 points. Calhoun was named the CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) Division II Men’s Diver of the Year. He was a 2014 CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Calhoun earned his Bachelor’s degree in Rehabilitative Sciences from Clarion in 2014, and went on to earn a Masters of Education: Counseling from Westminster in 2014, and he is in the process of finishing his Masters in Sports Psychology & Performance Enhancement. He is a native of Butler, Pa
Aaron Rooney
Aaron currently coaches at his high school alma mater Alexandria High School (Minnesota). Aaron has been coaching high school for 8 years. he has helped mentor 14 divers to the state championships (including a silver medalist in 2023). Combined 9 time Section Coach of the Year (between the girls and boys seasons).
Aaron also has been involved in judging 6 state championships and 3 NCAA DII Championships.
Aaron was a 8 Time NCAA All American at St. Cloud State. Aaron earned his Bachelor's degree in Finance. He now helps to run his family business Cowing Robards.
