Before these roles, Drew spent a decade as a U.S. National Team coach. During his tenure, the United States secured one gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, positioning the US team as the world's second-largest medal producer. Additionally, Drew Johansen was honored three times as the CSCAA Diving Coach of the Year (men’s in 2018 and 2023, women’s in 2022) and five times as the Big Ten Diving Coach of the Year (men’s in 2014, 2018, 2019, and 2023, women’s in 2022).

Throughout his illustrious 31-year tenure as a coach at Clarion, Hrovat guided his divers to unparalleled success, clinching an impressive 48 national championships and garnering 294 All-American honors. Hrovat's coaching prowess was acknowledged with the prestigious titles of NCAA Division II Women's Diving Coach of the Year on 15 occasions and Men's Diving Coach of the Year 11 times. Remarkably, in the 30 instances that Hrovat's divers participated in the NCAA Division II Championships, they narrowly missed the national title merely four times. Particularly noteworthy is the dominance displayed by the women divers under Hrovat's tutelage, who secured 27 national championships between 1990 and 2020, surpassing the combined total of 33 titles won by all other competitors. Similarly, the men's team captured 21 out of 60 possible national titles, with a male Golden Eagle athlete making it to the podium approximately once every two years.
